Rice pudding, a simple yet comforting dessert, has been enjoyed for centuries across cultures. This classic recipe offers a warm and creamy treat that is perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth.
     Easy Traditional British Rice Pudding
Ingredients:
1 cup medium-grain rice
4 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions:
Rinse the rice: In a fine-mesh sieve, rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the pudding from becoming gummy.
Combine milk and rice: In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, milk, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Simmer and thicken: Reduce heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. The rice should be tender and the pudding should have thickened.
Temper the eggs: In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract. Gradually whisk a small amount of the hot rice pudding into the egg mixture to temper it. This prevents the eggs from scrambling when added to the hot pudding.
Combine and cook: Pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the rice pudding. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the pudding thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes.
Fold in raisins (optional): If using, gently fold in the raisins.
Serve and enjoy: Pour the rice pudding into individual serving bowls and let cool slightly before serving. For a warm treat, serve immediately. For a chilled dessert, refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Tips of Traditional Rice Pudding Recipe:
For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of whole milk.
Add a pinch of saffron to the milk for a beautiful golden color and a subtle floral aroma.
Top your rice pudding with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, chopped nuts, or a dollop of whipped cream.
Leftover rice pudding can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
This traditional rice pudding recipe is a simple and delicious way to enjoy a classic comfort food. With its creamy texture and warm spices, it's sure to become a favorite in your household. So gather your ingredients, put on your apron, and get ready to create a taste of pure comfort!
